PARENT AND CHILD AQUATICS (AGES 6 MONTHS - 2 YEARS)
This program is intended to help children develop a comfort level in and around the water. It will provide the parent with the necessary knowledge and skills to orient the child to the water and safely supervise water activities. One parent or responsible adult must accompany the child in the water.
Class Length: 30 minutes

PRESCHOOL (Ages 3-4 years)
Children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around the water. Children will be taught how to put their faces in the water, learn how to kick on front/back with assistance, and become comfortable in the water.

LEARN - TO - SWIM GENERAL INFORMATION (AGES 5 AND UP)
Some levels may be combined due to low enrollment.
Students successfully completing the required skills will receive Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Swimming certification. Repetition can be the key to learning. Students often repeat a level several times before mastering the skills required for advancement. It is important for you and your child to understand that repeating a level does not constitute failure. Mastering skills takes time, practice and patience.

LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 1)
Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills;
First Time Swimmer
Purpose: Helps participants feel comfortable in the water. The beginner. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn To: Enter and exit water safely; Practice putting face ino the water and blowing bubbles through mouth and nose; Front and back glide, back float; Explore swimming on front and back; Explore arm and hand movements.
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 2)
Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose: Gives participants success with fundamental skills. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn To: Fully submerging and hold breath; Float on front and back; Roll over from front to back, back to front; Glide on front and back; Tread water; Combined arm and leg actions on back and front.
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 3)
Level 3 - Stroke Development
Purpose: Builds on skills with practice in deeper water. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn to: Enter water by jumping from side; Rotary breathing; Change from vertical to horizontal position on front & back; Front crawl & elementary back stroke; Flutter, Dolphin and Scissors kick; Head first entries from sitting/kneeling position.
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 4)
Level 4 - Stroke Improvement
Purpose: Develops confidence and improves skills. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn To: Swim underwater; Front & back crawl, elementary backstroke; Breaststroke, sidestroke & butterfly; Front crawl & backstroke open turns; Feet-first surface dive; Survival swimming.
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 5)
Level 5 - Stroke Refinement
Purpose: Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn To: Front Crawl; Elementary backstroke; Breaststroke; Tuck and pike surface dives; Rescue breathing; Shallow angle dive; Sidestroke; Back crawl; Butterfly; Front flip and backstroke flip; Safety topics & more
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 6)
Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Purpose: Refine strokes so participants swim with ease. Efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Review Safety Topics.
Participants Learn To: Fitness swimmer; Personal Water Safety; Fundamentals of diving.
LEARN - TO - SWIM (LEVEL 7)
Level 7 (Ellis-Porter Only) - Competitive Swimming
Class taught by a competitive swim instructor.
Purpose: Refine four basic strokes, turns and endurance. Ages 8-18.
Participants Learn To: Pre-requisite: Must be able to swim 25 yards of free-style and backstroke. Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, turns and endurance swimming.
ADULT SWIM LESSONS
Class A: Fear of Water
Not comfortable putting face in water; going past waist deep; or floating on back
Class B: Moderate Experience
Semi-comfortable in water; putting face/head in water; and going deeper than waist deep
