Bus Driver Employment Testing

Written Standards For Considering Bus Driver Applicants

Applicants with felony convictions in the last five years or DUI in last ten years will not be considered.
Applicants with driving records showing a history of offenses will be critically reviewed.
Candidates not passing the DOT physical will not be hired.
Candidates with a positive pre-employment drug test will not be hired.

Minimum qualifications for a Bus Driver include

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
One year experience in the operation of passenger buses or similar automotive equipment.
MO Class B CDL w/passenger endorsement (within two weeks of hire-training provided).
Must have excellent customer service skills, outstanding dependability, and ability to accurately and thoroughly complete paperwork, work safely, communicate clearly, sit for extended periods, work in extreme weather conditions, and aid disabled passengers.

Fire Fighter Employment Testing

Hiring of firefighter personnel is conducted on an as needed basis. Test dates and times are advertised in the local newspaper, the City of Jefferson website, and other sources. The City offers certification training for successful applicants. Minimum qualifications for a Firefighter include

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a valid Missouri EMT license within 12 months of employment and maintained throughout.
Have a Missouri Firefighter I certification within 12 months of employment.
Have a valid Missouri Class B Commercial drivers license within 12 months of employment.
Have the strength and stamina to work in a superheated environment, wearing up to 100 lbs. of gear.
Have the strength to operate heavy tools and equipment weighing up to 80 lbs. for up to 30 minutes.
Have the strength and endurance to remove an adult from a hazardous situation.
Have the ability to work with severely injured, maimed or dead persons.
Have the ability to control stress in life threatening environments.
Have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Police Officer Employment Testing

Hiring of Police Officer personnel is conducted on an as needed basis. Test dates and times are advertised in the local newspaper, the City of Jefferson web site, and other sources. Minimum qualifications for a Police Officer include

Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Be at least 21 years of age.
Have the ability to lift and/or move heavy objects or persons, give chase on foot, and restrain persons.
Have the ability to work in confined areas and outdoors in varying temperatures.
Have the ability to respond quickly to criminal situations as well as think clearly and remain calm.

Examination process for a Police Officer

Successful completion of a written exam
Physical Efficiency Battery test used to determine a candidate's readiness to perform the physical and arduous nature of law enforcement training. This test was developed by Washington University as requested by IACP. It has five components: % body fat, 1.5 mile run, sit and reach flexibility test, Illinois Agility Test, and a one repetition bench press. The scores are age and gender normed and compared to approximately 144,000 sets of scores--the largest data base in the world for law enforcement population.

Communications Operator (911) Employment Testing

Hiring of Communications Operators is conducted on an as needed basis. Test dates and times are advertised in the local newspaper, the City of Jefferson web site, and other sources. Minimum qualifications for a Communications Operator include

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
One year experience as a telephone operator, dispatcher or related work.
Must have MULES inquiry certification and APCO 40-hour Basic Communications Certificate within one year of hire.
A typing speed of 35 words per minute minimum.
