Southwest Boulevard Project Update

Updated (Monday, April 29, 2024)

Both the Northbound and Southbound lanes of the 800 Block of Southwest Boulevard will remain closed for utility work and construction. Both lanes will reopen to traffic by Friday, May 24, 2024.

The City is enhancing the greenway along Southwest Blvd to feature a single crossing, replacing the former crossing at Southwest Blvd and the Dix Road Connector. This upgrade includes a new raised crosswalk with a central median island and rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) pedestrian crossing lights. Additionally, the project entails constructing two new stormwater inlets and a section of new pavement on Southwest Boulevard.

However, during project execution, an issue arose: a broken drop structure was discovered within a sanitary sewer manhole situated within the area undergoing pavement reconstruction. To rectify this issue, both lanes of the 800 block will be closed starting Monday April 15 for approximately three weeks.

During this time, traffic will be redirected to Kansas Street and Stadium Boulevard.

We understand the inconvenience this closure may cause motorists but resolving this problem is crucial.

Once Sam Gaines Construction completes this project, Southwest Blvd will reopen to traffic. However, some final touches will be needed on the Dix Road Connector, likely requiring an additional week for completion.

We sincerely appreciate the community’s patience during this construction period and eagerly anticipate the improved infrastructure it will bring to our city’s core roads.
